Stone Chillum Chalwa Cobra 30.5cm ~ Extra long stone chilam in the shape of a horn with a size of 30.5 cm and a diameter of 5 cm. This black smoking pipe of soapstone ensures that the smoke is cooled considerably before it enters the mouth.

Important role of cobras in Hinduism

At the end of this heavy chillum cobra heads with small white and orange-red beads protrude. This gives the pipe a beautiful appearance. In Hinduism, where the use of a chillum is frequent among saddhus (holy men), cobras have been given an important role in the symbolism and therefore are frequently portrayed. Also, some gods, including Shiva, are shown with a snake.

Ancient Indian tradition

In the ancient Indian tradition of yoga the cobra is seen as sexual power and controlling it has immortality as a result. In this chillum pipe they are added purely as decoration giving the pipe an unique appearance.

The name Chalwa is like the word chalice, a term used with multiple meanings, including the reference to marijuana. It is also a kind of water-cooled smoking pipe with a long hose or tube for cool and pleasant smoke. This piece might not have a flexible hose or sepperate mounted tube, but is extra long in size so that the same cooling effect occurs.
